Sieben Österreicher inklusive mir, zog es vergangenes Wochenende nach Nürburg an die Nordschleife - ein klares Ziel vor Augen, die ultimative Testfahrt mit dem RCZ R.

Ist es nicht der Traum jedes Motorsport Begeisterten einmal die sagenumwobene Nordschleife zu befahren, einmal in die Fußstapfen von Jochen, Niki und co zu treten oder besser gesagt deren perfekte Linie zu erfahren? Das Fahrzeug und das eigene Fahrkönnen im Grenzbereich auszutesten? Eigene Geschichte zu schreiben und gleichzeitig Geschichte zu erleben?

Möglich gemacht hat diese Experience der französische Automobilhersteller Peugeot, der einmal mehr beweist, wie BloggerRelations und Fanbindung funktionieren können. Denn erstmals waren nicht nur Journalisten zu diesem Event eingeladen, sondern auch passionierte Peugeot Fans. Die Peugeot Austria Vertretung übernahm James Legg, seines Zeichens Marketing Director Peugeot Austria.

Wien, 28.03.2014 | Bis zum ersten Come-together am Airport war alles noch streng geheim. Wer sind die Teilnehmer, was wird einen erwarten und wann endlich darf man der Öffentlichkeit von seinem Vorhaben erzählen? Nach einem raschen Austausch - wir waren uns ja alle keine Fremden - wurden die Smartphones gezückt und erste Hinweise über Soziale Medien verbreitet. Die beiden auserwählten Peugeot Fans, Ini und Reini, kenne ich bereits seit einigen Jahren - die organisieren neben der Pflege und Wartung zahlreicher Peugeot und RCZ Foren auch regelmäßige Ausfahrten. James Legg ist zwar erst seit März 2014 bei Peugeot Austria tätig, doch ist er im Unternehmen längst kein Unbekannter, davor war er unter anderem im Peugeot HeadQuater in Paris für den Bereich Digital Marketing zuständig. Und dann noch die Truppe rund um Franz Sauer, ein alter bekannter Hase aus dem österreichischen Print Business.

Nürburgring, 29.-30.03.2014 | "Lasst die Spiele beginnen!" Der Nürburgring zeigte sich wider Erwarten unter strahlendem Sonnenschein und blitz-blauem Himmel von seiner sportlichsten Seite - wir hatten die Möglichkeit den Fahrern und Teams beim ersten VLN Lauf des Jahres ganz nah zu sein und in der Boxengasse zu besuchen. Nach vier Stunden stand das Ergebnis fest, Audi landete mit dem R8 von Phoenix vor dem Black Falcon Mercedes SLS und dem BMW Z4 von Schubert Motorsport.

Am Sonntag hieß es dann früh aufstehen, ausgewogen essen und trotz einer Stunde Schlafdefizit (Dank Zeitumstellung) frisch und munter in den Tag zu starten. Am Ring warteten nicht nur die fünf wunderhübschen RCZ R, sondern auch fünf professionelle Rennfahrer, einer davon Mathieu Santis, auf uns. Ich meine, hätte ich nicht gesehen, wie der Junge seinem Fahrkönnen und dem Fahrzeug vertraut, wäre mein Schwindel wahrscheinlich das kleinste Übel gewesen. Ich konnte mir davor nicht vorstellen was man aus dem RCZ R an Leistung rausholen kann, wie belastbar Bremsen, Kupplung und Fahrwerk selbst nach unzähligen Runden auf der Nordschleife sind. Auch für mich stand ein RCZ R bereit, der darauf wartete von mir und meinem Co-Piloten und Instruktor Mathieu gefahren zu werden. Ergebnis von einer Runde Nordschleife ist, ich bin eine unbeschreibliche Erfahrung und dem Erlebnis der ultimativen Testfahrt reicher.

GoodToKnow | Wusstet ihr, dass Peugeot mit dem RCZ THP200 (Team PEUGEOT RCZ NOKIA) von 2011-2013 drei Mal bei der VLN an den Start ging und drei Mal den Sieg holte? Es wird Zeit, dass es ein Wiedersehen mit dem RCZ R gibt!

ENGLISCH ABSTRACT | Last weekend I got the opportunity to join the ultimate RCZ R test drive in Nurnburg on the famous Nordschleife with professional race pilot Mathieu Santis. In the first lap I learned incredible stuff about the new RCZ R and of course about my fear but in the second lap I just tried to follow Mathieus instructions to get the ultimate experience. FROM PARIS TO HAMBURG ...
... on tour with the new PEUGEOT 308 - c'est très chic!

I spent the last week in Hamburg with managing some things for my upcoming relocation in April. During all this meetings I just had some hours to test drive the new 308. While driving through the city I’ve found this great place near the commercial harbor - the sun was shining and the weather was extremely warm, so I really had fun by doing this shooting.

The new 308 was recently voted as car of the year 2014 in Europe. This prestigious title was awarded by a jury of 58 journalists representing 22 European countries. It is the 4th PEUGEOT model to be distinguished by the “Car of the Year” award. It comes after the 307 (2002), the 405 (1988) and the 504 (1969).

The 308 is showing the brands move up-market and sales success with more than 55.000 orders recorded since the launch. At the moment the 308 range is getting expanded by the second body style: the 308 SW which I’m going to test drive in April.

Fuel consumption Record

With the new 130 hp PureTech turbo petrol engine the 308 established the record in fuel consumption. They achieved this performance by driving a PEUGEOT 308 hatchback on the Almeria circuit (Spain) under the supervision of the French test authority UTAC (Union Technique de l’Automobile). This one was fitted with the new PureTech three-cylinder turbo petrol engine and a six-speed manual gearbox. In 32 hours the 308 was consuming 51,4 liters of fuel and covering a distance of 1.810 kilometers which means a consumption of 2,85 liters per 100 km.

Design - Motion & Emotion

The stylish hatchback is daring and intuitive - but the streamlined design doesn’t mean low-tech. It is sleek and a kind of elegant with its redefined shape and the new dramatic front lighting signature. The interior comfort is shown by the new PEUGEOT i-Cockpit & Dashboard with its purity of design, the sporty driving position and simple positioned instruments. One of the highlights is the Panoramic Roof which reaches completely to the back.

In Conclusion

I really had fun cruising with the 308 through Hamburg city, the 115 e-HDi is very well balanced and brings enough power for sportive driving. The hachback has a good overview for parking or reversing situations. I liked the clean cockpit, the grey leather interior design and the awesome panoramic roof. All in all I can imagine, why the 308 is the car of the year.

Mazda 3 Revolution Top - Style auf Japanisch

Mazda räumt mit seinem Mazda 3 im heiß umkämpften Kompakt-Segment auf und zeigt wie Style auf Japanisch aussieht und wie sich Qualität auf Japanisch fährt.

Na klar, habe ich mich auch auf diese Testfahrt vorbereitet, schließlich liegt meine einzige Mazda-Fahrerfahrung nun doch schon ein paar Järchen zurück - genauer gesagt war die in einem Mazda 323 Popeye vor gut 10 Jahren (der war damals übrigens auch schon 10). Also noch schnell am Weg zum Händler die Pressemitteilung gezückt und gründlich gelesen. Mazda verspricht ein "Designstatement" in der Kompaktklasse, zahlreiche neue Sicherheitsfeatures, Multimediasystem und die aktuelle Skyactiv-Technik.

Einsteigen und anschnallen - BITTE!

Die erste Annäherung an den Mazda 3 gestaltete sich bereits recht aufregend, die dynamische Linienführung vom Grill über die Scheinwerfer bis hin zum Heck versteckt eine japanische Kampfansage. Das Cockpit und die sportlichen Sitze verleiten kaum im Fahrzeug sitzend, sich anzuschnallen, den Startknopf zu drücken und ins Gas zu steigen. Um so besser, wenn das erstmalige Verbinden mit dem Smartphone nur 24 Sekunden braucht.

"KODO - Soul of Motion"

Die neue Mazda Design Philosophie sucht die Inspiration in der Natur. Die Designer interpretierten dynamische und fließende Linien durch die Bewegung der Muskulatur und schufen das KODO-Design-Konzept. In der Tat wirkt der Mazda 3 gleichermaßen kompakt, wie sportlich und geräumig - im Innenraum findet man ausreichend Platz auch auf der Rückbank, der Kofferraum hat ein maximales Ladevolumen von gut 1.200l (bei umgelegten Rücksitzen)  und die Mittelkonsole mit Touchscreen wirkt lebendig aber aufgeräumt. Abgerundet wird durch sportliche 18" Leichtmetallfelgen und Doppel-Auspuffanlange (je eine Endung links und rechts).

SKYACTIVE Technology beim Mazda 3

Seit 2011 wird bei Mazda die Skyactive Technologie für Diesel- und Benzinmotoren angeboten. Zur erheblichen Reduktion des Kraftstoffverbrauches und der CO2-Emissionen führen die angepassten Motoren, Getriebe, Karosserien und Plattformen zB durch Leichtbau. Die Motoren arbeiten mit einer elektrisch unterstützten Verdichtung was zu einer Ersparnis von gut 15% (Benzin) 20% (Diesel) führt und gleichzeitig eine Steigerung des Drehmomentes bewirkt.

Das 7" Touchdisplay lässt sich auch easy über einen Drehknopf auf der Mittelkonsole bedienen, die Verbindung mit dem Smartphone war super schnell und super einfach hergestellt. Nach einmaligem Verbinden geht das bei jeder Fahrt über Bluetooth ganz von alleine. Bose-Soundsystem merkt man neben der exzellenten Sprachqualität natürlich auch beim Musik lauschen. Diverse Social Accounts und zusätzliche Gadgets hatte ich leider nicht ausprobiert, dafür fehlte mir dann doch die Zeit, soll aber auch toll sein. An dieser Stelle: Liebes Mazda Team, ich würde den Wagen gern noch mal für ein paar Tage nehmen - dann weiß ich auch wie es um sämtliche Zusatzfunktionen bestellt ist ;)

Die Einparkhilfe ist eine grafische Darstellung des Fahrzeuges mit diversen Farbzonen, da der Mazda aber extrem übersichtlich ist, geht das Einparken recht zügig von der Hand. Assistenzsysteme wie Spurhalteassistent und Intelligenter Bremsassistent waren äußerst unaufdringlich aber im Heads-Up-Display gut sichtbar.

FAZIT

Erledigt hat sich das ein für alle Mal mit dem Thema "Reisschüssel". Der Mazda 3 hatte nicht nur ein Verkaufsplus in 2013, sondern wird mit 3.000 prognostizierten verkauften Einheiten der meist zugelassene Mazda in 2014 sein. Überzeugt haben mich neben den Verkaufsargumenten Preis und Leistung vor allem das Fahrvergnügen. Der verbrauchsoptimierte Skyactive Motor hatte bei meiner nicht unbedingt sparsamen Fahrt gerade mal 5,6 Liter gebraucht, sportliches Fahrverhalten wird durch kurze Schaltwege und knackige Lenkung garantiert und auch sonst bleibt kein Wunsch offen. Komfort und Raum, tolles Multimedia-System und richtig guter Sound. Nicht zu vergessen, die Optik - bei KODO Design setzt ich ein klares "Ja" darunter. Es war mir ein Vergnügen dieses Fahrzeug in Szene zu setzen.

Get closer – motion & emotion

This is not just a slogan, it is more at all defining the new communication strategy. Since a few months the digital communication is focusing on working closer with bloggers, influencers and Peugeot fans. So they started the #PeugeotFanDays to give fans the opportunity to contribute to a space dedicated entirely to them. By sharing their special Peugeot moments with photos and videos they’ll get the chance to be invited to an exclusive Peugeot brand event for example to Geneva Autosalon. There were two very special fans I’d really like introduce to you. Peugeot 108 – so expressive!

Whit the brand new 108 Peugeot is showing the opportunity to personalize his car at its maximum or nearly in 5.000 different ways by choosing between 3 or 5 doors or a folded top, two-tone color for roof and body or sticker designs. The 108 is not this small it may look like, if you are sitting inside you have a good around view, good formed seats and enough space in the trunk for little city shopping trips. Some new features make the urban life much easier for example key-less-go, the reverse system and the mirror screen function which is transforming the apps of your smartphone to the 7” touch display. I could not wait to test drive this little beauty.

xOil under your skin

The famous French tattoo artist xOil, known for his special look of its work by doing tattoos in a style that associates graphic patterns and motives drawn from history, was invited by Gilles Vidal (Peugeot Design Manager) to design an incredible tattoo for Peugeot to explore the possibility of creating a unique personalized vehicle. xOil was given the freedom to express his talent to create a vehicle which pushes personalization to its extreme. The artist drew a lion comparing Peugeots history with the new by using the logo from 1920 with the proud and conquering lion and the active and dynamic lifestyle of 2014. One of the biggest challenges was to learn the difference between human skin and leather because of the absorption of color and the dryness.

A few words I'd like to give away as feedback. When I entered the Peugeot stand on Geneva Autosalon I was totally flashed of the new design. In just one word it will be “dynamic”. Over all it shows the new communication strategy, being close to the customers, showing innovation by using emotion and dropping facts and figures instead of excellent image spots. You all did a great work – go ahead like this and the next awards will be yours.

The Peugeot RCZ R produced at Magna Steyr Graz

Interview with the liable RCZ R project manager at Magna Steyr Graz

Befor my awesome RCZ R shooting at Magna Steyr Graz I had the opportunity to get a guided tour through the factory. Always on my side - the man responsible for the RCZ project - Jürgen Heidenbauer.

As you may remember, I asked you a few weeks ago to let me know your RCZ R questions I should ask in the upcoming interview. Jürgen tried to answer each of them and something more. Read the interview below.

The RCZ R project - an Interview with Jürgen Heidenbauer

D: Jürgen, you are working for Magna Steyr at the RCZ/RCZ R project! What are your responsibilities?
J: I am the project manager in charge, which means that I am the interface between Magna Steyr as contract manufacturer of the RCZ and Peugeot as the client. One of my major tasks is balancing the interests between the client and us, focused on the best project results.

D: What does working on the project RCZ/RCZ R mean to you?
J: It is the daily assurance working with an outstanding team and mastering every challenge the projects brings along, in order to deliver top-quality vehicles for our client.

D: What do you think is the RCZ R’s strong suit compared to another sports coupés?
J: It is the surprise effect during the first test drive regarding the emotional sportivity of this vehicle.

D: The production of a vehicle is incredibly complex, how many  parts is a RCZ/RCZ R made of?
J: Depending on the configuration of the RCZ/RCZ R we assamble about 1500 components here at Magna Steyr Graz.

D: How many RCZ roll off of the production line each day and how many of it are RCZ R?
J: Based on the actual filling of the market, we roll off about one-third RCZ R of the daily production.

D: In Conclusion - could you give away any secrets ore something special we have to know about this project?
J: Remarkably, but not very top secret is the fact, that Magna Steyr and Peugeot-Sport directly integrated a Peugeot-Sport vehicle in series production for the first time.

Some weeks ago I had the idea to shoot the new RCZ R fashion editorial on a completely different site, a place not easily accessible. A few phone calls and project descriptions later I was invited to a meeting at Magna Graz. We went through the factory and talked about my work as blogger and the idea I had with them. I was so happy after getting the permission to shoot my editorial in the midst of the production lines.

You make my heart beat

The idea behind this editorial was to share this special experience with you. Here we are, in the middle of the RCZ R birthplace – the place where its heart begins to beat. I had the chance to have a look on every station of this production lines, I could see how the small screws are matching together, the fitting of the engine and at last the marriage station. I’m going to write a post about Magna and the RCZ project in a few days to tell you the whole story.

When I’m thinking about French lifestyle it is always b/w, beautiful people on beautiful places, cafés with a breathtaking view on the Eiffel Tower and of course typical French music. I see all these artists, these wonderful galleries, well dressed women wearing gloves and hats - everything seems to be so chic.

So I tried to express this clean but special French lifestyle with my photography, the composition and less color. I’ve chosen this little black dress made out of very exclusive fabrics like leather and silk as well as the handcrafted accessories. Finished with a simple make up and sleek-chic hair my imagination of it was perfect.

Just spent two days at this wonderful little mountain village called Tignes in the French alps to test drive the new Peugeot Hybrid models, but had the most exciting winter experience ever.

As you might have noticed by now, I am head over heels in love with ht RCZ R ... from the beginning I just had a special connection to this very special vehicle. Not only the powerful engine, it is everything about this sporty coupé that really gets me. Maybe it is just a stereotype girly thing but I love the design and after my drive on snowy conditions it is also the simple handling and the fun you can have with it. Bu that's a side note, as my RCZ R ride hast just been the icing on the cake. Let's talk hybrids.

20 cm of new snow but we just can smile about

Peugeot launched a brand new Diesel-Electric Hybrid engine combination, called Hybrid4 you can choose for the models 2008, 3008 and 508. We had the possibility to drive all these models with and without Hybrid4 or Grip Control to feel the difference between it.

I really don’t want to go too deep into the technical details – that is something you can read in more technical versed blogs - I’ll try to capture the convincing handling and surprising facility of driving these Hybrid systems even in tough conditions instead.

As I began my trip in Graz, we had an awful weather with snow and rain - people are getting crazy on street and driving extremely slow – at least that gave my enough time to recapitulate my experiences with Hybrid and all-electric systems. We are living in a world constantly evolving and increasingly urban, we want to be always mobile yet do we want to protect the environment. I live in the inner city of Graz,  without a fixed parking space or even a own garage. A few month ago I had the chance to check out an all-electric car with finally bad results. At my opinion there must be a huge change to get electric drive suitable for daily use.

Peugeot Grip Control test with the 4008

We started our experience by driving on a small mountain road with 20 cm of fresh-fallen snow. After sitting in the 3008 Hybrid4 I have to mention that I felt very comfortable with the handling, it was absolutely easy going – you just have to use a little controller and choose the way you’d like to drive (Auto/ZEV/4WD/Sport).

  • By using the Auto-mode you’re always perfectly balanced between the engine/motor and of course the recharge. The system is fully automatic controlled and offers the best fuel economy and the lowest CO2 emission.
  • The ZEV-mode (zero emission vehicle) allows you a zero-emission drive, completely electric. If in need of more power the Diesel engine will turn on in a few milliseconds and you will go on with Auto-mode.
  • The 4WD-mode (four wheels drive) allows an optimized driving according to the conditions of grip and speed both engines will work together. In need the distribution of the torque can reach up to 40% on the rear axle.
  • The Sport-mode enables the most dynamic drive, with a more rapid gear change at higher engine speed. You’ll reach the full dynamic potential with an optimized workflow between engine and electric motor which brings a “boost” drive to all four wheels.

In between this two days we also had a workshop on snowy conditions to test drive the difference and get a feeling for it. We started with the significant difference between using the Grip Control mode and could choose, optimized to our specific terrain conditions, between Snow, All Terrain, Sand and ESP off for example by driving through a curve or for speed up. The second workshop was based on the Hybrid4 and the difference by driving in 4WD or for example with front-wheel-drive.

THE BOTTOM LINE

I’ve never test driven a good working system like this before. It is much more comfortable as at first thought and it seems to be better contrived. The switch between the different modes isn’t noticeable but the effect in any case. So you get in every situation a perfectly balanced and stiff vehicle to feel safety on every conditions of grip. In mind to use the four-wheel drive and to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by the way, I’m looking forward to see more of it on Austrian streets.

"R" like Rich&Royal or “R” like something else?
I’m so excited to give away this long hidden secret, about the things I did and I'm going to do, with this little post. And yes – it will be entirely and exclusively in English, an exciting "first time" for me as well as whole heartedly "thank you" for my international readers ;)

Just a few days ago I found this great outfit and decided that I’m finally in dire need of it … Here it is, completely dressed in cool Rich & Royal gear, a nice 'n shiny silver leather shorts in a luxurious metallic finish combined with a rugged yet finely detailed studded leather jacket combine to a look I really could not resist. Completing the look with my Solarplexus accessories, a Guess leather shopper which picked up the studded look of the jacket and my overknees as well. I think it rrrrrocks!

THE R-EXPERIENCE IS GOING ON

As you might have seen on my Facebook page over the course of last week, I’ve posted a lot of short clips – all about the “R” experience. A series showing the feeling you get driving the Peugeot RCZ R. I can confirm it, this is how I felt during the test drive I did in Nizza last November. There is truly something going on. I am going to join a winter driving experience in Tignes (France), shoot a fashion story in an unbelievable location and write a behind the scene report about the place where the RCZ R heart begins to beat.
